| A variation on the original Slim Jim.
This style holster was usually made with a triple recurve throat, full contoured main seam, sewn in tear drop toe
plug, and a riveted and sewn belt loop. The difference here is rather than a fully sewn belt loop this is made
like a Miles City style with a riveted cross loop, sort of a combination SlimJim/Mexican Loop. This makes for a
very tidy holster without the bulk of the large skirt as seen on the Mexican loop styles. Iy si decorated with
a border and rosette stamp and nickel spots. Color is the medium russet brown which is much like a lot of the old
time holsters. Now I had never seen an original made exactly like this (and I have looked at a LOT of originals), but just recently while relaxing and looking through my copy
of "Guns and the Gunfighters" by the editors of Guns & Ammo magazine (it's out of print) I came across
the following picture of Belle Starr who is packing an S&W American in a holster that appears to be very similar
to the above style. Hers has a very narrow back skirt and a cut loop rather than
riveted. This style of very small skirt and contoured pouch seems to be a Texas style, but most I have seen have
some what larger skirts than this. Any way it sure looks good. |
