As important to the cowboy as his hat or horse were his spurs and in order to wear them he needed spur sraps. Spurs set you apart as a horseman, and the horsemen of all ages have worn spurs. During the Middle Ages becoming a Knight of the Realm meant you had "won your spurs". Looking at old photos and Western Art you will find spurs and their straps in all kinds of styles, although the California Vaquero style seems to have predominated until after the first of the century. All types of adornment were used and this is one of the few pieces of equipment where silver conchos were regularly used. Carving, stamping, scalloped edges, nickel, brass, or silver spots, fancy buckles, linings - all these and more can be used to make your one-of-a-kind spur straps.
